Treasure Village Montessori is like a village of families who are enthusiastic about learning and willing to actively participate in the school.
Treasure Village Montessori encourages parent involvement in all aspects of their child’s education, including the reinforcement of Montessori principles at home. An outstanding education requires commitment not only by the school, but by the family and community as well.
Parents (and that can include extended families and friends) are expected to volunteer at least 25 hours per family per year. Activities can include chaperoning field trips, preparing classroom materials, room parent, reading with students, assisting in the library, fundraising, and serving on various school committees.
These committees are established to enhance, and sometimes monitor, the growth and progress of the school. Committees are made up of volunteers from the parent body and the surrounding community and usually chaired by a board member. Staff, although they participate in committee events, are not normally committee members due to the level of commitment and dedication to their teaching responsibilities. A schedule of committee meetings, including time, date and place, is posted in the beginning of the year. Parents are encouraged to sit on committees on which they have a particular desire or knowledge. Committees include Fundraising, Marketing and Public Relations, Facilities, Compliance and School Advisory.
Fundraising: This committee is responsible for raising $100,000 every year. This money is vital to the operation of the school, and covers expenses such as teacher training, cultural programs and classroom materials that could not otherwise be purchased due to budget constraints. There are approximately six events during the year and include activities such as fishing tournaments, art shows and food tasting opportunities. This committee is vital to our school and parents are highly encouraged to participate.
Marketing and Public Relations: This committee is responsible for enhancing and promoting the reputation and success of the school and for the effective promotion of events through press releases, posters, postcards, school apparel , etc. Parents who possess excellent written communication skills, graphics, editing, and research and development skills are encouraged to join.
Facilities: This committee serves as a sounding board to the principal regarding facility improvement and development. Thus, its priority is to ensure that the property is properly maintained and upgraded. The members also oversee and review reports from local inspectors to ensure that factors related to health and safety issues are addressed. Those who are knowledgeable in construction, property management, permitting and other related areas, are best suited for this committee.
Compliance: This committee is made up of professionals who have experience with contracts and other technical terminology. Members require strong editing and writing skills since they are asked occasionally to help develop documents such as the bylaws, personnel policies and the parent handbook. This committee typically communicates through e-mail, and will meet occasionally to discuss related issues.
School Advisory Committee (SAC): This committee is the most technical committee of all. It is responsible for reviewing, overseeing and consulting with administrators on student achievement and academic progress. Parents with a teaching background and others with knowledge in the area of education are best suited for this committee.
